We reached Shimla on 3-Dec-2018. I had booked our stay at Radisson Jazz through the Internet. However, there was some drama in the process. I made my booking through the Radisson web site. However, after I had finished making my payment, I got an email from some Homvotel.com saying that my payment was received. I immediately called Radisson Jazz on their Shimla number. There, the person who picked up the phone, told me that there is no booking in my name. This made me worried. So, I called the number in the email. It was a number from Delhi. Here, again, the person who picked up the phone, told me that she could not find any booking in my name. However, she told me that she would call back. I asked for her email id and sent her the email I had received regarding the payment having been made.
The person from Delhi did call me back to confirm that our payment was received by them. She told me that she would ensure our booking at Radisson Jazz. I requested her to ensure that we are given a “Smoking Room”.
After another 5 more calls, ultimately, the lady from Delhi told me that the booking was confirmed. So, I called Radisson Jazz on their Shimla number to confirm. However, again I was told that they do not have any booking in our name. After about 30 minutes after this call, the same person from Shimla called to confirm that our reservation was confirmed.
He, however, told me that the hotel does not have any Smoking Room.
All the Rooms in the Radisson Jazz are Non-Smoking Rooms.
We reached Shimla by Toy Train from Kalka. We took a Taxi from the Shimla station to reach Radisson Jazz. Now, if you get advice from Google Map, it shows that Radisson Jazz is a little more than 3 KM from Shimla station. However, this is not quite true as the Taxis cannot drive through the Mall Road and thus the distance is significantly more.
After some bargaining, the Taxi agreed to take us from Shimla station to Radisson Jazz for Rs. 300.
On reaching Radisson Jazz at about 11:30 AM, we met Miss Apoorva. She led us to the lobby where we were served coffee. Then, she filled all the needed forms and allocated our room. I asked Miss Apoorva, if she could arrange a Car to take us to Taradevi and some more places possible within 4-5 hours. Miss Apoorva arranged a Innova immediately. We agreed to start at 1 PM.
Now, hiring a car from Radisson Jazz is reasonably more costly as compared to hiring a Taxi. The possibilities we had were to engage the Taxi which brought us from the Railway Station for our trips around Shimla. However, we choose to go for the costlier option of hiring from Radisson Jazz. We did not regret our decision as the drives were absolutely comfortable with very decent and polite drivers. And they maximised what we could see within the time we had at our disposal.
Miss Apoorva needs special mention. She made our stay so much more comfortable. She was available for any sort of help whenever we needed it.
We were escorted to our room by a Trainee. I could make out that the Boy was Trainee as he had a badge on his chest stating “I am Learning”. We took the lift. Now, the lift moves downwards. We had to get off the first lift and walk a bit and take another lift to reach our room. We were comfortable in our room.
I asked our escort where I could smoke. He took me to the lawn next to the Dining Room. It had chairs and table where I could sit and smoke. it was about 10 meters from our room.
Our package included Breakfast. Also, as we had booked for 3 persons staying in one room, Radisson Jazz provided 1 extra bed in the room. After planting the extra bed in the room, there was sufficient room for us move about in the room.
In our package, Radisson Jazz included 2 connection to the Wi-Fi. So, Deepshree and Ranoo connected their phones to the Wi-Fi. I continued to use my Data Services from Airtel. I found this a little unusual as most of the Hotels I have stayed in around the world provides 4 Wi-Fi connections.
From our Room, we had a wonderful view of the valley and the mountains behind.
We ate the breakfast packets we had got from Taj Chandigarh for lunch. This was very heavy as the packets contained a lot of things. After this, we did not feel the need for lunch that day. Also, Radisson Jazz had kept some fruits in our room as a welcome.
We started for Taradevi at around 1 PM. On the way back from Taradevi, we were taken to Sankat Mochan Temple. From there we started back to Shimla and asked our driver to drop us at the Mall Road.
Now, no vehicles are allowed in the Mall Road. So, the driver dropped us at the Lift. We bought tickets for Rs. 30 each for reaching the Mall Road using the Lifts. On reaching Mall Road, we roamed around. We also had Red Wine at a restaurant.
Around the evening, we wanted to get back to Radisson Jazz. The driver had told us that we should come to place called SBI (State Bank of India), from where he would pick us up. I did not find any indicators to lead us to SBI. So, I went to the Tourist Office and asked them. The Gentleman told me to walk through Lakkad Bazaar to reach SBI. He also told me that though the place was called SBI, there is no SBI Branch at that location.
Anyway, we found the road to Lakkad Bazaar after a brief search and kept walking down the hill. We crossed the landmarks we were told like Hotel White, etc and ultimately reached the set of stairs. We climbed down the stairs and reached the road where we could see vehicles moving about. So, we called Radisson Jazz and they sent the car. So, we got back to Radisson Jazz by about 7 PM.
At around 9 PM, we went to the Dining Room to have Dinner. We joined the buffet. It was an elaborate Buffet. But the aspect to remember is that the staff in the Dining Room were so hospitable. They made us eat so many varieties and kept serving like we were in a Baraat (Marriage Party).
Next morning (4-Dec-2018), we had Breakfast in the Dining Room. Again, we found the staff in the Dining Room to be extremely hospitable. We had a very good Breakfast.
Before starting for Narkanda, we had requested Miss Apoorva to arrange a meeting with the HR Manager for some personal requirement of ours. When we were returning from Narkanda, the HR Manager – Mrs. Varsha Dutta – called us and asked when we could meet her. Deepshree went to meet Mrs. Dutta the moment we reached Radisson Jazz. Mrs. Dutta then came over to our room and met all of us. She was a very nice lady.
That night, we decided to have Pizza for dinner. There was an advertisement in our room that we could get Pizza and Cold Drink for Rs. 499 and Rs. 599 for Vegetarian Pizza and Non-Vegetarian Pizza respectively. We ordered one Non-Vegetarian Pizza.
When the Pizza arrived, we realised that it would not be sufficient. So, we ordered one more.
On 5th, we got up a little late as we had had very hectic days since 2-Dec-2018. We had our breakfast at the Dining Room at around 9:30 AM. Then, we went around the Hotel and took photographs.
At around 12 Noon, I went to the Spa to get an Oil Message for 1 hour. It was very good.
Then, at around 1:30 PM, we walked to the Mall Road to have lunch.
Mall Road is about 800 meters from Radisson Jazz. However, to reach Mall Road, it is a very steep climb.
Returning from Mall Road, we relaxed. At around 4:30 PM, we called the Reception to check out as our return Train was at 5:45 PM. This time, we took the Innova from Radisson Jazz to drop us to the Shimla Station. Radisson Jazz charged Rs. 500 for this trip.
